STARFLEET Command Status Report: May 2026 Crew Update

Greetings, crew! The latest fleet-wide Command Status Report is out. To save you from digging through pages of administrative data, we have broken down the most essential updates, system notices, and upcoming activities that impact general crew members across STARFLEET.

Here is what you need to know:

🚀 Office of the Commander & Technology Update

  • System Outages & Rebuilding: You have likely noticed recent stability issues with organizational emails, the Academy, and regional websites. Two legacy infrastructure servers encountered a security vulnerability. Important Note: There is no indication that any member information was compromised.

  • trajectory is Positive: Secure mail infrastructure is coming back online by office priority, and database/Academy services are stabilizing.

  • Security Changes: Moving forward, organization-wide password resets are being rolled out, and Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is actively being built into restored services to better secure your accounts.

  • Virtual International Conference (VIC) 2026: Due to timelines, there will be no in-person IC this year. Instead, VIC 2026 will take place digitally on August 1st, 2026.

    • It will feature 24-hour access to a Gather Town environment, social spaces, evening entertainment, and planetary streaming programs.

    • Cost: It is entirely free of charge to members in good standing.

    • Crew Action: Registration is rolling out now. Because digital infrastructure costs scale based on attendance, leadership asks that you please only register if you genuinely intend to participate.

💻 Educational Services & Academy

  • Moodle Upgrades: The Academy platform has been undergoing a massive infrastructure and OS upgrade to Moodle v4.

  • How to Take Courses Right Now: While Moodle remains in maintenance mode, you don’t have to pause your studies! Crew members can look up the course catalog via the Educational Services Facebook group or the SFA-Business Discord channel to get the email addresses of individual College Directors. You can contact them directly to request and complete exams via PDF files. (Please give Directors up to 10 days to process these manual requests ).

  • 60th Anniversary Challenge Delayed: Due to the Moodle downtime, the Commandant’s 60th Anniversary Challenge has been temporarily delayed but will still span 6 months once it begins.

👥 Membership Services

  • 2026 Recruitment Contest: The annual recruitment drive is officially active from May 1, 2026, through September 15, 2026 (perfectly timed for convention season and the 60th Anniversary of Star Trek on Sept 8!). Expanded awards are being offered for recruiters this year.

  • Onboarding & Verification: Standardized email onboarding sequences are running via Mailchimp. If you receive one, please use it to verify your personal profile data so fleet records remain accurate.

  • Coming Soon: The Orientation team is planning a comprehensive Video Tutorial Series to help general members easily navigate the Members Hub, Helpdesk, and Quartermaster site.

🛠️ Operations & Technical Services

  • MSR Reporting Relief: Due to the system-wide technical outages, all Chapters and Regions are fully exempt from being marked late or non-reporting for Monthly Status Reports this month.

  • Vessel & Gear Technical Work: The Advanced Starship Design Bureau (ASDB) is actively reviewing several cool concepts, including an Odyssey-class carrier variant (Moonshadow-class), the Typhon-class, and the Beowulf-class. Meanwhile, the Office of Technical Information has successfully mapped out the “Strange New Worlds” timeline additions up to the upcoming Season 4.

🎖️ Auxiliary Services Highlights

  • STARFLEET Marine Corps (SFMC): The Ribbon Device Project is complete. Marines can now purchase formal and duty uniform devices (sabers, anchors, stars, etc.) at wholesale cost directly from the SFI Quartermaster as soon as the website functions resume.

  • STARFLEET Medical (SFMD): Medical certifications, wellness activities, and training programs remain highly active. Over 82 medical award certificates and 262 wellness challenge certificates (Step/Reading challenges) were issued last month alone.

  • STARFLEET Tactical (SFTA): In response to growing popularity, SFTA has introduced Fallout 76 Xbox sessions on alternating Saturdays. Keep an eye out for upcoming “Gaming with the CS” Twitch streams scheduled for May.

  • Sciences (SFSCI): Following a successful Earth Day summit, Sciences will soon be launching the Citizen Science Challenge, which will feature the Globe Night mission.
