August 2026 Update: Boldly Geauxing Forward!

Greetings, Red Shirts! Whether you’re tuning in online or meeting up around Baton Rouge, the crew of the USS Corsair (NCC-26556) is ready for another action-packed dispatch.

As we look across Region 3 and STARFLEET International, our organization has officially turned an important corner. From major digital milestones to big upcoming events, here is what our crew and local community need to know!

🌐 SFI.org is Back Online!

The biggest fleet news of the month is that SFI.org is back online!

While restoring our central hub after a month-and-a-half-long rebuild was no small feat, seeing the primary website return marks a massive milestone in ongoing modernization efforts. Digital Systems & Technology is continuing to refresh, validate, and restore additional services to ensure everything comes back stronger and more secure.

A Quick Clarification on Social Media: Without a central website, rumors can sometimes fill the void. Rumors claiming the central administration plans to take over Regional or Chapter Facebook pages are completely false. Regional pages remain under Regional Coordinators, and Chapter pages (like ours!) stay under Commanding Officers. Communications is only helping clean up abandoned auxiliary pages to clear up confusion for new members.

🗓️ Mark Your Calendars: Virtual IC 2026 & Beyond

Get ready to connect with Trekkies worldwide! The Virtual International Conference (VIC) 2026 takes place on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

  • Ask Me Anything (AMA): The Vice Commander will hold two separate AMA sessions during VIC.

  • Special Guests: STARFLEET Tactical has lined up special gaming guests for the event.

  • IC 2027 Host Bids: Early hosting bids for IC 2027 have already begun arriving for Admiralty Board review, with official announcements expected soon after VIC.

🖖 Celebrating 60 Years of Star Trek

With the 60th anniversary of Star Trek approaching, departments across the fleet are gearing up to celebrate:

  • Communiqué Cover Contest: The STARFLEET Communiqué is calling on chapters to submit their best group pictures. The top submission will grace the cover of the post–Star Trek Day issue!

  • Commandant’s Challenge: STARFLEET Fandom Academy is launching a 60th-anniversary-themed challenge open to all members, kicking off alongside VIC on August 1.

💫 Auxiliary Services in Action

Our specialized departments continue to make an impact across the galaxy:

  • STARFLEET Medical (SFMD): Total membership reached 456 registered members! SFMD issued 19 medical awards, 130 Reading Challenge certificates, and 127 Step Challenge certificates. Interim training resources remain accessible via shared Google Drives.

  • PETFLEET: Interim Director Mary Demiter has taken command following Fleet Captain Randy Mitson stepping down. PETFLEET has also merged its Newsletter and Communications departments to streamline updates.

  • STARFLEET Sciences (SFSCI): SFSCI is preparing its next feature presentation, “101 Ways to Die in Space,” designing a 3D CAD model of Schrödinger Station, and migrating communications to HubSpot.

  • STARFLEET Tactical (SFTA): Active fleets remain engaged in Star Trek Online (PC & Xbox) alongside tabletop sessions for Tales from the Loop.

📚 Crew Quick Notes: Academy, SFDPP, & Joining

  • Educational Services is Open! Don’t wait for Moodle to take your next course. You can request course manuals directly via PDF from course directors and return completed exams by email. Official academic records continue to be logged in the database at db.sfi.org.

  • Chapter Compliance Reminder: Chapters requiring Starfleet Disability Protection Plan (SFDPP) qualification must contact GEN Jill Rayburn within the next 30 days to enroll and avoid drydock status.

  • Welcome New Members: Know someone in the Greater Baton Rouge area or beyond looking to join? New members can sign up directly at db.sfi.org/secure/signup_main.php.

Thank you to all our USS Corsair crew members, volunteers, and local fans for your continued dedication, community spirit, and passion! Boldly Geauxing!
